After booking your initial acupuncture session, you’ll receive an electronic intake/consent form. Please complete it before arriving at the clinic.
Please allow approximately 60 - 75 minutes for your first appointment and approximately 60 minutes for follow-up appointments.
Treatments are done in a semi-private communal space with social distancing between patients.
If you are a new patient with a complex case, a telehealth visit with a Rooted Refuge practitioner is recommended (but not required) during the first few visits to get a full picture of what you’d like to work on during our time together.

Resource Redistribution Program
In order to make acupuncture accessible to as many people as possible, we have three different tiers of payment. Each level is the same quality and duration of treatment, the only difference is the payment amount.
Please examine your social and economic location by using the rubrics provided in the green bottle diagram below.
You are also able to contribute other amounts to our Resource Redistribution Program. Let your practitioner know during your appointment if you wish to contribute an additional $20, $10, $5, or $1 to the Resource Redistribution Program.
Resource Redistribution Rate (Initial $135 / follow-up $105)
-This rate corresponds to the full green bottle on the left. To book, please select this rate during online booking
-Each time you (or anyone) books a treatment at this rate, we are able to allocate one half-cost treatment to someone who has fewer resources.
Standard Rate (Initial $85 / follow-up $70)
-This is our standard rate that we need to make in order to sustain our business.
-This rate corresponds to the half full green bottle in the middle. To book, please select this rate during online booking.
Half-Cost Rate (Initial $45.00 / follow-up $35.00)*
-This rate corresponds to the almost empty bottle on the right.
-For every one Resource Redistribution Rate that is booked, we can allocate one Half-Cost treatment.
-Half-Cost Rate are allocated in bundles of 4 treatments to be used within 2 months of allocation.
-This treatment is not available for online booking. To be placed on the recipient list for Half-Cost Rate treatments, please email us at TheRootedRefuge@gmail.com. (subject to available funds)
-This rate is cash only, and we are unable to provide superbills for these treatments due to insurance regulations.
- BIPOC, queer folx, & sex workers will get first priority for Half-Cost Rate.

Telehealth Herb Consultations
Initial $105
Follow-up $70
Telehealth herb consultations are primarily used to recommend and prescribe custom herbal formulas.
They can also be useful for in-depth fertility coaching, menstrual cycle tracking, progress evaluation, supplement recommendations, or any time an in-depth conversation about your medical condition is necessary.
After booking your initial telehealth consultation, you’ll receive an electronic intake/consent form. Please complete it before your appointment.
If you have cold, flu, or COVID-19 symptoms, or have been exposed to COVID-19 in the past 14 days, we ask that you make a telehealth consultation rather than an appointment for an in-person visit.
Please allow 30-45 minutes for the first consultation and 15-30 minutes for follow-up consultations.
Herbal formulas and/or supplements will either be shipped to you directly from one of our partner pharmacies or available for pickup at our clinic.
Consultation price does not include the price of herbs.

NADA Protocol
$25
The NADA protocol is a series of 5 points in each ear that is effective for reducing cravings and withdrawal symptoms in addiction, and providing relief from symptoms related to stress and emotional trauma.

WHAT CONDITIONS CAN BE TREATED WITH ACUPUNCTURE AND CHINESE MEDICINE?
The World Health Organization and the NIH mentioned the following conditions that acupuncture can have a positive impact on in their report; “Acupuncture: Review and Analysis of Reports on Controlled Clinical Trials”

DO YOU TAKE INSURANCE?
The practitioners at The Rooted Refuge currently do not directly bill insurance. If you would like a receipt to submit to insurance, please let your practitioner know. Insurance receipts are generated the 1st of every month for the previous month.
WHAT DOES ACUPUNCTURE FEEL LIKE?
Acupuncture is typically relatively painless. Somewhere between 6 and 25 hair thin needles are placed in acupuncture points and then you rest with the needles for about 30 minutes. While resting, most people feel sensations such as tingling, warmth, heaviness, aching and general feeling of peace and calm. Most people agree that acupuncture makes you feel amazing both during and after treatment.
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE FOR ACUPUNCTURE TO WORK?
This question can have many answers. Typically, the longer you have a presentation the longer it will take to resolve. Back pain that has persisted for 10 years will require more treatment than back pain that has persisted for 10 days. Generally speaking, we can expect a shift in symptoms to happen within 4-8 weekly treatments. Sometimes certain conditions can resolve in a shorter amount of time and some can resolve in a longer amount of time.
WHAT IS YOUR CANCELATION AND LATENESS POLICY?
We request a 12 hour notice for cancellations. Appointments cancelled with less than 12 hour notice will be charged $30. Please arrive on time for your appointment. It is at the discretion of your practitioner if you can be seen if you arrive 10+ minutes late.
WHERE DO YOU SOURCE HERBS AND SUPPLEMENTS?
All of our herbs and supplements are professional grade and are sourced from reputable companies that use quality ingredients and are free of adulterants and contaminants.
IS YOUR CLINIC WHEELCHAIR ACCESSBLE?
There are two eight-inch steps at the entrance of The Rooted Refuge. We are working with the building and the city on a solution to allow wheelchairs to enter the clinic. In the meantime, if you can not negotiate the two stairs, the practitioners at The Rooted Refuge are happy to do an acupuncture home visit at the same affordable price. HOW SHOULD I PREPARE FOR MY VISIT?
When coming in for acupuncture, it’s best not to be too full or too hungry. If you haven’t eaten in four hours, please have a snack before visiting the clinic.
Many commonly used acupuncture points are located below the knees and below the elbows. Please wear loose comfortable clothing to allow access to these areas.
WHAT FORMS OF PAYMENT DO YOU ACCEPT?
While we do accept credit card payments when absolutely necessary, we strongly prefer cash payments. Credit card transaction fees ultimately end up in the hands of big corporations. When you pay cash, your money stays in the local Ridgewood community.
IT IS SAFE TO RECEIVE ACUPUNCTURE DURING PREGNANCY?
It is 100% safe to receive acupuncture during pregnancy. The Rooted Refuge practitioners have years of experience working with patients in all stages of pregnancy and postpartum.
